1. Tuition rates will be based on the number of lessons for the year rather than by the month. This will help with invoicing, as the amount will be the same regardless of the number of lessons in the month. If the number of lessons is fewer or more, the same amount will apply. This amount covers one weekly lesson as well as our regular performances. (This averages out to 4 lessons a month with breaks for Christmas, spring break, etc.)
2. Regarding absences: Tuition pays for a time slot to be held in the studio schedule. I've always tried my best to swap lesson times or find another time in my schedule for conflicts with performances, school concerts, doctors appointments with ample notice (at least a week if possible!). I'll continue to do this as much as possible, but my schedule has become very full, and I just don't have much flexibility as in the past. I am able to do a Zoom or Facetime lesson if something happens and you’re unable to come in person. Family vacations are not excused absences, but do courteously please let me know if you have one scheduled.
NOTE: If I have to reschedule a lesson due to my performing schedule, these missed lessons will also be made up at an alternate time. In extreme cases, a credit will be issued in a subsequent month for lessons that I am unable to make up.
3. In the case that a student is stopping lessons for any reason, a one month notice or its equivalent payment is required.
4. Payments can be made by cash, check, paypal, venmo. Late payments (after 7th of month) will be charged a $10 late fee.
5. Policy regarding summer: Summer schedules are understandable, and I do allow more flexibility as far as missed lessons are concerned. However, to hold a place for the following school year, at least 6 lessons must be scheduled or paid for (whether they are used or not) during the summer.
6. Please feel free to contact me by email anytime, and by phone or text during daytime hours. I am happy to discuss any concerns with you.
7 . NO FOOD OR DRINKS (water only please) are allowed in the church auditorium. (This is so we don’t lose our privilege of using this beautiful piano and space. :) )
Recitals There will be at least two recital opportunities each year. Performing is an important part of growing and learning an instrument and also an opportunity for the students to share their hard work. Students should plan to perform in these and family should plan to attend.
Practice Students and parents must commit to practice each day. Students should aim to practice 6 days a week. Beginners should plan to practice about 20 minutes daily.
Required Materials
Violin Each student should have a quality instrument and bow that is the correct size for the student, a shoulder rest that fits the student and rosin. If you need help obtaining a violin, please tell me and I will be happy to assist you in letting you know your options for obtaining a violin and other equipment. Violinists should bring their violin, shoulder pad, notebook and all assigned music to each lesson.
Piano Each student must have daily access to a piano to practice on. I strongly recommend a real piano in good condition (and should be tuned regularly.) Students that are able to practice on a quality piano make much faster progress especially in the area of technique and musicianship that students that practice on a keyboard. If obtaining a real piano is not possible, an electronic piano with 88 (weighted) keys is the next recommendation. Pianists should bring their notebook and all assigned music to each lesson.
Books Students will need to purchase a few books each year. The instructor can purchase these for you and be reimbursed, or you may purchase these books yourself. Please get books the student needs in timely manner so that the student can continue to progress.
Please do not bring food or drinks to the lesson or lesson area. Siblings and parents are always welcome to observe lessons (if siblings are not a distraction during the lesson.)
Learning an instrument is a commitment required by both student and parent. The reason these requirements are set is to ensure success in each student.
